Taylor Swift’s Virtual Easter Egg Hunt Encounters Technical Hiccups

Swifties around the world were buzzing with excitement as Taylor Swift, the pop sensation, announced her upcoming re-recording of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” last month while performing in Los Angeles. What added to the thrill was the revelation that “Taylor’s Version” would feature previously unreleased songs, known as “vault tracks.” These vault tracks have been a delightful bonus for fans in her past three re-recording releases.

Swift, known for her playful engagement with her fan base, had previously teased fans with vault tracks for “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version)” by releasing videos with scrambled letters. This time, she took the treasure hunt to a whole new level with Google’s help.

On Tuesday, Google announced that its search function would generate a series of 89 puzzles for fans to solve. These puzzles would eventually unveil the names of the new songs in “1989 (Taylor’s Version).” The excitement was palpable as Swifties prepared to collectively tackle a whopping 33 million puzzles.

The Quest Begins

For some international fans, the journey began when they spotted a little blue vault icon while searching for “Taylor Swift” on Google. The mystery deepened, and anticipation grew as Swifties eagerly awaited the vault’s significance.

The puzzle adventure commenced with the vault revealing a scrambled version of Taylor Swift’s upcoming album name. As participants entered answers into the search bar, more puzzles would unlock, leading fans closer to the treasure trove of new songs.

Technical Troubles

However, as fans, including this NBC News reporter, tried to decipher the puzzles, many encountered technical glitches, leaving them frustrated. Some questioned whether the colossal number of puzzle completions required was achievable, especially when the game wasn’t functioning correctly.

“I feel like Taylor constantly forgets how big she is,” one fan quipped on X (formerly Twitter). “33 million is a lot when you take into account the vault not working.”

Another fan humorously lamented, “we’re definitely not getting 33m before the album comes out with this stupid vault not working.”

Google Addresses the Vault Jam

Late on Tuesday, Google acknowledged the technical issues and reassured Swifties. In a post on X, the company stated, “Swifties, the vault is jammed! But don’t worry, there are no blank spaces inside. We’re in our fix-it era and will be out of the woods soon.”

As of now, Taylor Swift’s team has not responded to requests for comment.

Swift’s Cryptic Clue

On Tuesday afternoon, Taylor Swift posted a video clip on her Instagram featuring a blue vault opening. Her caption read, “You can tell me when the search is over… if the high was worth the pain.” This post triggered a spike in searches for “Taylor Swift” on Google, with interest peaking two hours after her post.

“1989 (Taylor’s Version)” is scheduled to be released on October 27, exactly nine years after the original album’s debut. While the virtual Easter egg hunt hit a temporary glitch, Swifties remain eager to uncover the treasures hidden within the vault.
