In a recent announcement, Kraft Heinz is issuing a recall for approximately 83,000 cases of its individually wrapped Kraft Singles American cheese due to a potential choking hazard. The company has identified a “temporary issue” with one of its wrapping machines that could result in a “thin strip of the individual film may remain on the slice after the wrapper has been removed.” If this film isn’t removed before consumption, it has the potential to be unpleasant and even cause a choking hazard.

The decision to recall these products came after the company received “several” customer complaints regarding the presence of this plastic film on the cheese slices. Alarmingly, six of these complaints reported incidents where consumers choked or gagged on the plastic. Fortunately, no injuries or health issues have been reported in connection with this issue, and the malfunctioning machine responsible for the problem has been promptly fixed.

If you have purchased any of the affected products, here’s what you need to know:

Affected Products:

  2. 3-pound Multipacks of “Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product”

    • The “Best When Used By” dates to watch out for are January 9, 2024, and January 16, 2024.

If you possess any of the recalled cheese products, it is strongly advised not to consume them. Instead, return them to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange. Alternatively, you can contact Kraft Heinz directly at 1-800-280-8252 to arrange for a refund.

In an effort to address customer concerns and improve safety, earlier this year, Kraft announced changes to the packaging of its individually wrapped cheeses. The redesign aims to tackle the number one customer complaint, which has been the difficulty of opening the clear wrapper. The revamped packaging now includes a redesigned flap on each slice, providing more texture and sturdiness, making it easier to open without tearing. Additionally, the packaging has received a subtle logo redesign and emphasizes that the cheese is free from artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.

Kraft Heinz is dedicated to upholding the highest safety and quality standards, and they apologize for any inconvenience caused by this recall. Your safety is their priority, so make sure to check your cheese products and take appropriate action if you have any of the affected items.
