Liverpool, England, September 17, 2023 – In an exciting Premier League clash, Arsenal managed to secure their first victory at Everton’s Goodison Park in six years. The decisive moment came in the second half when Leandro Trossard’s strike found the back of the net, giving Arsenal a 1-0 win.

Arsenal’s Domination Pays Off

The match began with high intensity, as Arsenal aimed to break their six-year winless streak at Everton. In the first period, Gabriel Martinelli appeared to have opened the scoring for the visitors, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.

Despite Everton’s resolute defending, Arsenal’s dominance eventually paid off. Substitute Leandro Trossard made a significant impact by slotting home a shot that ricocheted off the post, sealing Arsenal’s victory in the 69th minute.

With this win, Arsenal maintained their unbeaten streak in the Premier League, joining the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool with 13 points from five games. They are now just two points behind the league leaders, Manchester City, who have a perfect record.

Everton’s Struggles Continue

On the other hand, Everton’s dismal start to the season continued with their third successive 1-0 home defeat. The Merseysiders showed commendable effort but lacked the necessary quality to challenge Arsenal.

Manager Sean Dyche acknowledged his team’s defensive efforts but expressed disappointment with their ball retention. He commented, “We defended in numbers, which you have to do against teams like this often. We did well on that side of the game but with the ball, we were miles off, we gave it away too many times.”

Arsenal’s Surprising Goalkeeper Change

In a surprising move, Arsenal opted for David Raya over England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Raya had a relatively quiet afternoon as most of the action unfolded at Everton’s end of the pitch.

Arsenal’s early celebrations were halted when Martinelli’s exquisite finish was disallowed due to an offside decision following a VAR check. To make matters worse, Martinelli was forced off the field with a muscle injury shortly after.

Trossard Seals the Win

As Arsenal continued to press, they finally unlocked Everton’s defense. Martin Odegaard’s clever pass set up Bukayo Saka on the right side of the penalty area. Saka’s precise cross found Leandro Trossard, who expertly placed a shot off the far post with his left foot.

Following Trossard’s goal, Arsenal comfortably controlled the game and secured their elusive victory at Goodison Park.

Arteta’s Praise and Martinelli’s Injury

Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, lauded his team’s performance, emphasizing their defensive solidity and numerous chances created. He mentioned, “We played an incredible game, kept them quiet, and created many, many chances.”

However, the victory was not without a setback as Martinelli sustained an injury during the match. Arteta expressed concern about the injury, saying, “He felt something in the action for the goal. He’s not normally a player to have muscular issues, but he had to come off.”

With a win against Everton under their belt, Arsenal now faces a crucial week ahead, including a return to the Champions League and the eagerly anticipated north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
