The upcoming Rocky Mountain Showdown between the University of Colorado and Colorado State University is taking an unexpected turn, all thanks to a fashion statement. Colorado’s head coach, Deion Sanders, has brought a stylish twist to the showdown, and it involves sunglasses.

This unique showdown began with comments made by Colorado State’s head coach, Jay Norvell, during a radio show. Norvell took a playful jab at Sanders, known for his signature style of wearing hats and sunglasses during media interviews. He mentioned, “I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off. When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off.” The remark ignited a playful banter that has since turned into a sunglasses showdown with a touch of style.

In response to Norvell’s comments, Sanders decided to take the rivalry up a notch. He made an appearance on popular sports shows like “First Take” and “The Pat McAfee Show” while gifting the hosts with pairs of Prime 21 sunglasses from Blenders, adding a touch of flair to their on-set appearances.

But Sanders didn’t stop there; he carried this sunglasses showdown right into his team’s camp. During a recent team meeting, Sanders distributed these fashionable shades to Colorado players, creating a sense of unity and motivation.

Speaking about Norvell’s comments, Sanders shared his initial thoughts, stating, “I didn’t like that it happened because it’s another [Black coach]. We started out right? He was complimenting me, I was complimenting him, but it just took a quick left. What happened? Who got to him?” Sanders found Norvell’s comments perplexing and wondered about the sudden shift in tone. However, Sanders emphasized that his team was more than ready to face this challenge head-on.

As the Rocky Mountain Showdown approaches, Sanders expressed that his team is at a level 10 in terms of readiness. The matchup against Colorado State, coming ahead of games against Oregon and USC, has been further intensified by Norvell’s comments. Sanders firmly believes that his team is prepared and motivated to prove themselves on the field.

While some might see it as a playful exchange of words, there’s no denying that this sunglasses showdown has added an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming clash between the two Colorado rivals. As the teams take the field, fans will be keeping a close eye on this spirited showdown, both on and off the field.
